Defender is the magnificent, perfumed incarnation of Boadicea, Queen of the Iceni, the iconic reference for the brand.
Defender opens with a rebellious shout of zesty ginger, grapefruit and unexpected swirls of dark liquorice, honeyed cognac mingled with a compote of plum, raspberry and sour cherry.
Solar orange blossom heralds the arrival of Defender’s heart of Night Blooming Jasmine, an intoxicating flower with heady, licentious imaginings. This is supported by an alluring blend of atmospheric myrrh, and hay absolute suggesting Boadicea’s childhood, farming wheat and barley with her family.
The other main note is a verdigris leather accord, created using Leather Fusion, a patented technology and seductive homage to the tactile nature of natural skins and hides. It counterbalances the floral fruity notes and evokes the hand-crafted leather armour worn by Boadicea as she rode into battle.
The base radiates amber and musk, birch tar, guaiac wood and patchouli. Peru balsam imparts vanillic and cinnamic facets and is further enhanced with rum-soaked dried fruits. Clary sage and labdanum lend the leather coating of herbaceous salted honey.
Defender demonstrates how echoes of the past have relevance today as we adorn our skin in such complex scented protection.
